Animal Success Stories

As an all volunteer foster-based rescue group, successful adoption stories are the only compensation we seek!  Our Foster Caretakers, who spend weeks or months loving the animals in their care, always want to know how their “babies” are doing once they have found their forever homes.  We hope that the adoption of a pet is not the end of a process but the beginning of a relationship between A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue and our adoptive families.  If you’ve adopted a dog or cat from us, please share your story!  Success Stories and pictures can be sent to adoptions@asecondchancerescue.org.

Ariel
Ariel

To whom this may concern, Ariel, whom was renamed Hamlet, is doing very well in our home and is a happy puppy. She is very sweet to everyone she meets and loves to lick strangers' faces...she's not shy at all! She is almost 12 weeks now and she's practically crate trained and already goes to the door when she has to go to the bathroom! She has made us very proud! She does not bite unless we are playing and does not bark unless she has to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. She just started puppy obedience classes at Petsmart this past Sunday and she is learning her name this week. She is very sweet and loves to be cuddled and have her ears scratched. She has been to the vet twice since coming home and had some worms the first time and that was fixed very quickly. Then the second time we brought her in for some diarrhea and bloating which was caused by some new food we were trying to switch her to. We unfortunately found out at that time that she has demodectic mange. She was given some medicine for that, but it has made her lethargic so we are trying a homeopathic bath with her before we try the medicine again. We have also switched her food back to the original food and she is doing much better. She has gained two pounds, but remains on the tiny side. Overall, we feel very lucky to have such a smart, sweet and really well behaved puppy. Here are some pictures, the first one was taken on 9/24 and the second one where she is laying down was taken 10/3. Thank you for checking up on her and thank you for helping to match us up with such a wonderful puppy! Sincerely, Allison and Desiree

Akela
Akela

Dear Kathy, Akela's new name is Kayla or KK for short. She is a very busy little puppy. She is growing quickly. She has three little boys who love on her and play with her constantly. We took her to the dog park yesterday where she was able to meet other small dogs like her. She made friends quickly. We are working on housebreaking her, teaching her not to bite, showing her the difference between her toys and the kids' toys. She is a smart and sweet little dog. She is fitting into our family well. Thanks for checking in. We will send pictures as soon as we can.

Asoka
Asoka

Hello Kathy, It is nice to hear from you. She came with two names Asoka and Abby (on the paperwork) and the foster family said she responded best to Abby, hence what we call her. Abby is a delight, sweet, playful, well behaved, although she needs some training, and extremely good natured. She is currently undergoing treatment for worms, mange, parasites and a mite infestation. She is responding extremely well to the treatment and I am taking her for her second "dip" on Monday. I have yet to socialize her as the vet said that she needed to fight the current mite problem before being exposed to other dogs. This has prevented me from taking her for training and the dog park but I expect to be able to do so soon. The vet said it would take a while for the mange to dissipate, but it is almost completely gone with the hair all but grown back. She seems very happy and does well with the crate. She and the cat are getting along pretty well although its a good thing the cat is declawed. I have made arrangements for someone to come in M-F to walk her and play. I know the family and I know that Kelly will be good to Abby. I am fortunate to live a block from the beach and take her there at night as I get home at 11:30. She enjoys the beach but has yet to venture near the water. Although Abby has only been here a month it seems as though she has always been here. I look forward to many years with her and feel that I am fortunate to found such a beautiful wonderful animal and can't say enough how much she means to me already. Thank you again for everything. Everyone that I have dealt with in your organization has shown a great level of commitment and caring. I am not so good with photos, just took a few and the batteries in the camera died so I will send them out separately to you later today. Please feel free at anytime to initiate a home visit. Enjoy the weekend.
