Animal Success Stories

As an all volunteer foster-based rescue group, successful adoption stories are the only compensation we seek!  Our Foster Caretakers, who spend weeks or months loving the animals in their care, always want to know how their “babies” are doing once they have found their forever homes.  We hope that the adoption of a pet is not the end of a process but the beginning of a relationship between A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue and our adoptive families.  If you’ve adopted a dog or cat from us, please share your story!  Success Stories and pictures can be sent to adoptions@asecondchancerescue.org.

Cain

Dude (aka Cain) Hello, We are in love with the new addition to our family. We were little unsure of bringing him home when we did because our older dog, Player, had become really sick. We felt such an attachment immediately, we could pass him up. When we got him home we knew we had made the right decision, only wished we could have done it sooner. He was really loving to Player in his final days. Unfortunately he passed within the first week of bringing him home. The cancer had spread all over his liver and taken him quickly. We didn't even get the biopsy results back until the day he passed. It was such a sad time for us, but Dude has brought us joy and love through this hard time. We are thankful for the time we were able to have them together. Cain was not taking to his name so we started calling him Dude. He has been the perfect little dude, very well mannered minus the typical puppy learning curve. He had lots of potty issues through the first week, and we were very concerned that there was something wrong. We found out that he had round worms and coccidiosis, but with the help from Dr Fox he is clear and healthy now. He is now 10lbs, as of his last vet visit a week ago, and still growing. He is a very smart and loving dog, and crate training has help tremendously with the potty training. The first few weeks he was unable to be around other dogs so we just started puppy playtime classes this past week. He is a star pupil, except for when it comes to loose leash walking (but we are working diligently on correcting that). He has been great around the other dogs, in class and at the beach, and is adored by us and every one he meets. We would love to find another brother or sister rescue. He does so well when we take him over to friend's houses to play with their dogs, and is so sad when we leave. It breaks our hearts. We have decided to get him a companion, but we need to find the right fit. Our thought is to find an older rescue (1-2yrs) to learn and grow with him. Have you heard from the other families that adopted his siblings? We would enjoy taking him on an outing to visit with them, or foster/adopt them if it didn't work out. Please let us know. Thank you very much for all that you do to help these puppies find good homes! With much gratitude, Michele & Chris Cowling

Hermosa
Hermosa

We adopted Hermosa on Saturday at pet smart. I was sad to see most her siblings were not adopted. She has been so wonderful, no accidents in the house which I am expecting and prepared for with resolve carpet cleaner. Lol! She is such a sweet well behaved dog at 2 mths old we are shocked! So gentle with our kids, I have a five yr old autistic child who is very gentle and she has picked that up and follows him everywhere already. Love at first sight. We are crate training but she is amazing with this as well. She cries for a few seconds, tell her no and she stops! Wow! She wakes me at night with a little cry every 2 hours, I walk her she pee pees and goes back to her crate. I think this litter has been fostered so well and I will definitely spread the word! Thank you, she is a beautiful addition to our family! Thank you to all the volunteers, she has changed our lives! Laurie M. Sent from my iPhone

Cow-girl

And Happy Friday from Cleo and C.C. (formerly known as Cow Girl). My partner took some pictures of C.C.'s new bed....she is loving it and we ADORE her. She stops people traffic wherever she goes. She has met all of her people family and a few canine and feline cousins. We went to see Dr. Fox at the RBAH....what a special place full of loving and wonderful people!!! I haved decided to have C.C. go there for her care. By the way, C.C. is her nickname -- her full name is Cafe Con Leche. We will be out to the Chili Cook-Off in April. My publicist has been tweeting about how wonderful A Second Chance Rescue is and I have directed 5 people to your site to fill out adoption papers. C.C. is an excellent ambassador for Second Chance Rescue. We are committed as a family to promote and assist you all as much as we can. Thank you and everyone else -- an especially C.C.'s mom -- for blessing us with PURE JOY -- her name is C.C. Much Respect & Love, Cleo & LouAnn & C.C.

Didi

Hi Second Chance Rescue! We adopted a puppy from you over three years ago now and wanted to finally update you on her! Her name at the rescue was Didi and she was from a large litter of presumed lab/shar-pei mixes. We renamed her Rory and are so happy to have found her! She is about 40lbs (we weren’t sure how big she would turn out to be) and is the prettiest dog we have ever seen! She is also extremely smart and knows tons of tricks, including balancing a treat on her nose and catching it as well as stretching on demand. She also rings a bell at the door to let us know she has to go outside. Thank you all so much for everything you do and helping puppies like Rory have a second chance!! We checked your website to see if any of her siblings had updated you with a success story, but none of them have one =( So we wanted to know if you would be able to provide us with any emails of her siblings new parents, or let them know that we would like to share pictures and stories with them! I have also attached a recent picture of her. Thank you! Leah & Rory

Venza
Venza

Venza (AKA) Bella is doing great. She is a typical puppy. Very curious, energetic, loving and mischievous. She loves to go for our daily walk. She is enrolled in puppy kindergarten. We have to work on the behaviors most labs have difficulty with, pulling and jumping. In time I'm sure she will get better. She also likes to dig holes in the back yard. Hopefully she will stop doing that as well. We have a few pictures to send you, I will email those to you. Thanks to Second Chance Puppies our family is complete again.
