Animal Success Stories

As an all volunteer foster-based rescue group, successful adoption stories are the only compensation we seek!  Our Foster Caretakers, who spend weeks or months loving the animals in their care, always want to know how their “babies” are doing once they have found their forever homes.  We hope that the adoption of a pet is not the end of a process but the beginning of a relationship between A Second Chance Puppies and Kittens Rescue and our adoptive families.  If you’ve adopted a dog or cat from us, please share your story!  Success Stories and pictures can be sent to adoptions@asecondchancerescue.org.

Anju

Awesome and Anju were adopted together, and now live in Oregon! Hello Debbie & Mike ~ I just realized that the puppies turned 6 months old a few days ago so thought this would be a good time to send some updated new and photos. Awesome and Anju have bonded with us, grown and changed in the past few months. They are still very close and enjoy playing endlessly with each other but are developing their own separate personalities also. Anju is more timid of new things and unknown noises but she is a very lovable and cuddly. Awesome is the more serious of the two. He worries if Anju or one of us leaves the "pack" and acts so relieved and happy when we return. He is the swimmer. He will swim out into the lake to fetch sticks and even puts his whole head down into the water to retrieve something he wants. Anju can swim but prefers to only go out as far as she can with her feet still touching bottom. She loves to play on the edge in the grass and steal the sticks that Awesome brings ashore. Although he is bigger than Anju she is the one that teases him in play and he usually falls on his back when they wrestle. Anju loves to go in the car and is the first one at the door to get in. It is very funny that neither one will jump up into the back seat. They both put their front paws up on the seat and then look back with their heads around as if to say "we are ready for you to lift our back halves up". The best part other than their devotion is that when out on the beach or hiking in the wood they stick right with us, never running off. If they get a little ahead they keep looking back to make sure we are following. Here are a couple of photos of our great dogs! East coast dogs visit the Pacific Ocean for a tiring day........

Spice

Thanks!! Well to begin with her name has changed to GINGER. Our family is really happy to have her with us and she is very happy with her new forever home and family. Ginger has been to the doctor twice already, on her first visit she was diagnosed with hook warms and treatment was started and now finished, she is also in treatment for tape warms which we discovered in her stool after her second visit but those are minor issues and the only ones health related. We have changed her food to Natural Choice and she loves it. Ginger is now 98% potty trained the other 2% is our fault when we miss her signals hahaha! She is very good with the kids and with all of the other dogs and cats in our community, our neighbors are in love with her. She enjoys going after a Frisbee or ball in our yard is hard to get her back in from play time in the yard, she still does a little play biting and we’re working on that, next month we’ll have a trainer from fun dog training starting a series of training sessions to establish some commands and help with some of that puppy behavior. Overall Ginger has turned out to be the perfect addition to our family. She's a very smart, loving and submissive dog. Thank you for the work you do. I’m attaching some pics to this email.

Lexy

Second Chance.......Christie and Lexy's previous Fosters, Just a note to let you know that Lexy is doing really well. She has bonded with my Mom and Dad. She loved to sit on Dad's lap and watch the ball games on TV or sit on the chair next to Mom while she works a puzzle. My Dad was definitely hesitant at first but we were right and it's all good! She made a few trips to the Lake House and just like you said Car rides are no problem. She saw the Vet and got the bortadella shot and he confirmed she is a healthy dog. She is definitely the queen and lets my dogs know whose house it is ...but then calms down. She couldn't be sweeter. I consider this a success story! Many thanks, Andrea Serraes

Delilah
Delilah

Hello Second Chance family, We are writing to inform you that Delilah has successfully acclimated to her new home and family. She and our other dog Portia (adopted from A Second Chance in 2009) have become best buds. Portia still likes to have her space now and then as she is older and was use to being an "only child" but Delilah adores her, follows her everywhere and does as Portia does. When Portia is more in the mood to play, they go for hours running, chasing, wrestling and pouncing on each other. Once they tire out you never have to look far for either of them as they are always curled up together on the nearest bed, snuggling. Thank you for helping us make our family complete! We hope you enjoy the attached photos.

Sue-Viver

Sue-Viver aka ZoE is a great addition to the family. She initially had a large learning curve due to the lack of interaction with her mom and loss of her siblings. However she is very smart and catches on quickly. She has mastered her puppy classes in three weeks and is continuing to impress us with her abilities. She's fully of energy, loves the beach, and of course chasing her brother, Milk the cat :) She's been a delight and we are enjoying watching her grow (rapidly i might add) in to a healthy and happy dog! Thanks for all you do! Kate and Zoe
